ARLINGTON, Va. – Washington Capitals heart David Steckel, assistant coach Dean Evason and Slapshot visited Adelphi Elementary School throughout Adelphi, Md., this afternoon, Thursday, October. 3, to host the first installation of the Capitals Hockey University, presented by Chevy Pursuit Bank, this season. The threesome began the session fielding questions from students in the basic school’s gym, before aiming a floor hockey session around the fundamentals of hockey using 130 excited fourth, fifth and sixth-graders.

Next, Evason and Steckel proven the basic skills needed to be a prosperous hockey player.Alex Pietrangelo Saint Louis Blues Jersey Steckel showed the way to stick handle and then each Evason and Steckel emphasized the techniques linked to passing and shooting. Immediately after each skill was demonstrated, 20 students were chosen to perform the techniques and demonstrate what they had learned.
 
Slapshot questioned Steckel to a one-on-one shooting competition by which Slapshot was in goal. Half of students cheered on Slapshot and the other half guaranteed Steckel. Steckel emerged on top, scoring 4 out of 5 of his shots about the Capitals mascot. Following the shootout, Slapshot along with Steckel shook hands, a true signal of sportsmanship.
 
Hockey School, presented by Chevrolet trucks and chevy Chase Bank, concluded with a girls versus boys scrimmage where the girls won on a shootout objective.
 
All students received a player greeting card autographed by Steckel, a squishy puck, and a hockey 101 pamphlet to certify that these people as graduates of Tennis School. The Capitals furthermore donated the set of the path hockey equipment used to put on the clinic.
 
This is the third consecutive year the Capitals have conducted the program. This Caps hosted 20 clinics and reached 2,500 local students the past 2 yrs. During the 2009-10 season, thousands of simple and middle school students will certainly graduate from Hockey School presented by Chevy Chase Bank.
